Donation request: emergency fund for Afghanistan

Kia ora wāhine mā

You will have seen the letter from Mary our president which sets out the dire situation that our sister judges are facing in Afghanistan. I hope you have also read the statement from Susan in her role as president of the IAWJ and the other articles and statements that have been referred to.

The IAWJ is doing what it can to raise the awareness of various governments to try and evacuate some of those that wish to leave their country. It has limited financial resources so cannot help with any funding. For those who are lucky to escape it is of course highly unlikely that they will ever be able to work as judges and for those who stay, because they are women, they will never be able to work again. Their financial situation, to say the least, will be dire.

One way we, as members of the association, can assist is to raise funds to help them when things have settled down. I know that many organisations are asking for donations to support many very worthwhile causes at the moment, but I urge you to spare a thought for our sisters in Afghanistan and be as generous as you possibly can.

The bank account is: 01-1823-0020621-00. NZAWJ

PLEASE, please when you make a payment note the reference as Afghan
